Essays

These are a small collection of essays that were inspired by whatever was happening around me at the time. Some are political or religious in nature, while others are just observations I make while I'm out and about.

CLASS, OR LACK THEREOF...
(2010)
I've been engaged in a bit of a social experiment over the past couple of months, and so far I've been wholly confused by some folks and the seemingly general ideas as to what constitutes "class".

LOSING OUR HEADS... ER, MINDS
(2014)
Can we please cut out all the manufactured outrage? I am so tired of seeing companies jump from one foot to the other in order to be “politically correct” because someone decides to connect two completely different things together, get upset, and then proceeds to rally the masses.

MENTAL HEALTH AND GUN OWNERSHIP
(2016)
Over twenty years ago I was a bartender at a night club. In the area at the time there would be news about people driving drunk and killing themselves and others on almost a weekly basis, these incidents often happening right around the time the bars closed.

MORBID HISTORICAL TIDBITS
(2014)
As is my custom, I've been juggling two different books to read over the past week. This time they both have to do with capital punishment in Europe, and I'm finding it interesting how very different the general attitudes are.

PHOTOS OF DEAD TERRORISTS
(2011)
I just heard the news about Obama deciding not to release any of the post-mortem photos of Osama bin Laden after it was announced yesterday that at least one would be released. I could go on forever about the indecisiveness but I would rather spend the this time talking about history, suspicious natures, and who "we" are.

ROOTING FOR THE VILLAINS
(2016)
While there are certainly exceptions, I tend to favor the black hat characters over all others in books and film. They just seem to be easier to relate to, but usually in a manner that polite society doesn't like to acknowledge. The villains do things that I think many people would love to do but also know better than to make the attempt.

THOUGHTS ON TORTURE
(2014)
I see there has been a lot of talk about torture in the news. To be clear, I haven't sat down and watched it, nor have I spent much time reading news articles. However, I have caught a few memes floating around and decided to toss in my two cents on the subject.
